Lyft Pass Guide: Employer-Paid Rides

Some employers, schools, and programs pay for Lyft rides on your behalf through Lyft Pass. Typical uses are daily commutes and safe late-night rides home. Your organization decides what is covered; you just claim the pass and ride.

How to Claim a Lyft Pass

Organizations hand out passes in several ways. Pick the one you received:

You need the Lyft app and an account first. If no invitation ever arrived, ask your organization's transportation manager rather than Lyft support.

How Lyft Pass Pays for Rides

Once claimed, request a ride that fits the pass rules and the credit applies on its own. To see exactly what is covered, open the app menu, tap Payment, and scroll to the Lyft Pass area. The rules there govern times, areas, and ride types.

Lyft Pass vs Promo Codes

Pass credit is funded by an organization with custom rules, while promo codes are Lyft discounts with standard terms. Both can live on one account, and each follows its own rules when a ride is requested. Prefer to prepay instead? Gift cards put spendable credit on any account.

Troubleshooting

Pass did not apply? The trip almost certainly broke a rule: wrong hour, wrong pickup area, or an excluded ride type. Re-check the rules in the Payment tab.

Public funding passes work the same way but come from transit agencies and nonprofits rather than employers. The claim steps and rule screens are identical.
